When I first heard “God Only Knows” by For King & Country, I felt like it was written for people like us—the ones carrying quiet battles. We may look fine on the outside, but inside we’re wrestling with obstacles, heavy thoughts, or even loneliness.
So often, we reach for whatever the world offers to ease the ache—distractions, quick fixes, even numbing ourselves. But those things never truly heal us because we keep searching for something more.
But Jesus said in Matthew 11:28–30:
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest… For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
He doesn’t ask us to figure life out alone. He simply asks us to bring Him our tiredness, our questions, our struggles—and let Him carry the weight.
The chorus of the song says it perfectly:
God only knows what you’ve been through.
God only knows what they say about you.
But God only knows the real you…
It’s a nice reminder that we are not alone. People may misunderstand us or judge us based on our past, but God sees beyond the surface. He sees the heart we don’t always show others. Psalm 34:18 reminds us that
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted.
And when we feel unseen or unworthy, Romans 8:38–39 reminds us that nothing can separate us from God’s love.
So maybe today, instead of carrying it all ourselves, we can take even a small step of leaning on Him. He knows the heaviness we hold, and He offers peace in exchange.
We don’t have to have it all together. We just have to remember that we’re deeply known, deeply loved, and never walking alone.
