Last Sunday, the pastor’s sermon was about the narrow gate. Believe it or not, every day we make choices—our attitudes, our priorities, our relationships, our meals, etc.
One of my favorite poems is The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost. He is deciding which path to take–the choices in life. He ends the piece noting:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
Common Road
It is appealing because it is easy, requires little sacrifice, and often follows the crowd. When everyone else is going the same direction, it can feel comfortable and safe.
But as Christians, we are to follow Christ. That means making decisions that others may find weird and uncommon. Or showing kindness when bitterness or anger feels justified.
Narrow Road
Enter by the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. Matthew 7:13-14
Choosing to follow God day by day does not require perfection first. We seek His forgiveness when we fail. When we are uncertain, we seek His wisdom. When we are tired, we rely on His strength.
His way is not always easy, but we never walked alone. God promises to guide us every step of the way.
Memories
We reminisce about the opportunities we embraced, the mistakes we made, and the lessons we learned along the way. Like the traveler, our choices will make a difference.
