A few days ago, I attended a prom for people with special needs at a church. As my buddy and I were dancing in the back, I was watching others around us (there were other activities) dancing, laughing, and enjoying the night. I was struck by the beauty of it all. No judgment. No bullying. Just the joy and freedom of being themselves.
At that moment, the song “Gold” by Britt Nicole floated into my mind as we (14+) were represented as kings and queens— tiaras and crowns with corsages.
But the truth is that our identity isn’t temporary. We are always “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14).
“So don’t let anybody tell you that you’re not loved. Don’t let anybody tell you that you’re not enough.” Britt Nicole advises us to remember.
Even Jesus said in Luke 12:7,
The very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear; you are of more value than many sparrows.
Our worth isn’t determined by how others treat us, how we compare to someone else, or how “put together” we feel on any given day. Our worth comes from the One who made us, knows us, and calls us His masterpiece (Ephesians 2:10).
And in His eyes, we are worth more than gold.
